The Sunlander

Description
If the tropical north is on your itinerary and you're happy to let the
world pass you by, then the Sunlander service offers you a comfortable,
relaxing and affordable alternative, three times a week.
A dining car available to all passengers plus two Club Cars (one for sleeping car passengers and the other for sitting) are attached, tastefully furnished with both lounge and club style chairs. The Club Cars have a congenial atmosphere and, except for some periods of night travel, offer continuous service for light refreshments, drinks and confectionery.
The Club Cars operate in conjunction with the Dining Car where two or three course meals (Table D'Hote) can be purchased. Meal tickets are distributed by the Passenger Attendants. To see the best of Queensland, just sit back, relax and let the Sunlander show you the rest. Comfortable first-class accommodation consists of both first and economy class sleeping compartments and economy sitters.

19th November 2004: Due to a derailment of a Cairns Tilt Train service on 15th November, some Sunlander services will be extended to Cairns to make up the capacity lost from the Carins Tilt Train service. In particular, the Tuesday service from Brisbane and the Thursday service from Townsville will now extend to Cairns. This is now reflected in the timetable below.

Travel Facilities and Services
Sleeping Berths
Are provided for both First and Economy Class travel.
First Class Sleeping cars - Roomette: Comprises single berth compartments which contain wardrobes, bedding, washbasin, power point (240 volt AC) and toilet. First Class Sleeping cars - Twinette: Comprises two-berth compartments which contain wardrobes, bedding, washbasin, full length mirror, power point (240 volt AC) and reading lights. Economy Sleeping cars: Comprises three-berth compartments which contain a washbasin, power point (240 volt AC) and reading lights. A blanket, pillow, pillow slip and lower base sheet is provided in Economy Berths.
Showers
Are provided at the end of all sleeping cars and some sitting cars.
Toilets
Are provided at the end of all sleeping cars and sitting cars.
Sitting Cars
Have been constructed as open saloon cars with overhead luggage racks and individual reading lights. Each seat may be reclined to a desired position by pressing a button in the arm rest. A public address and background music system is provided together with panoramic windows with shade control. Toilets and washbasins are provided at the end of each carriage.
Dining and Club Car Service
A Dining Car, which is available to all passengers, plus two Club Cars (one for First Class and Economy Class sleeping berth passengers and the other for Economy Class sitting passengers) are attached to all Sunlander services. The Club Cars are tastefully furnished with both lounge and club style chairs.

If desired, passengers may take light refreshments to their seat or cabin. Full bar service is also available for consumption in the Club Cars. Passenger's Luggage
All passengers may have conveyed free of charge two items of luggage not exceeding 25 kilograms (55 pounds) each, plus one piece of hand luggage. Where "check-in" facilities are available, luggage must be presented at least 45 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time. The liability for loss or damage is limited to $200. Unchecked luggage is carried at the owner's risk. Identification tags should be affixed to all items including hand luggage.
Break of Journey
Is permitted for journeys over 120km at any nominated station, but sector fares will apply when the break of journey is more than four (4) hours.
Cancellation or Rebooking
Fees may apply if travel is cancelled or amended.
Reservations
May be made up to 325 days in advance. Restrictions do apply for short journeys.
Smoking
Is not permitted on any QR service.
