QR Citytrain:
Safety
QR Citytrain carries about 43,000,000 passengers each year. Its safety record is very good, however when incidents do occur, it is often a situation that could have been avoided. Here we cover the major areas to keep in mind:
Rushing for Trains
Often when we run late for trains, it's tempting to risk our luck rather
than accepting the decision of the clock. This opens up two main areas
where intending passengers get into trouble:
If you get to the station by 5 minutes before the intended departure time, you'll find these hassles become a thing of the past. But if you do find yourself late, remember: There's always another train but there's not another you.
Crossing the Track
In recent years QR's trains have become quieter and faster. Also, more bi-directional
running is being used - this means trains can possibly run in either direction on
any track. So it's more important than ever to play it safe when crossing
railway tracks. Designated crossings have been provided for this purpose, whether it be
an overbridge, subway or signed level crossing.
Yellow Safety Line
A yellow line is painted 1 metre away from the platform edge. This is the closest safe
distance at all times except for when a train is stopped at the platform.
Mind the Gap
Some stations in the network have a wide gap between the train and the platform,
especially on curves. For your own safety, please be careful when you're
boarding or departing the train.
